Biography
I have always been an adventurer with a passion for extreme sports, so it was not surprising to friends and family when I decided to learn how to ride a motorcycle in 2000 at the age of 24. I started riding in February 2000 after I bought a well-used CBR 600, then I upgraded in January 2001 to a brand new Kawasaki ZX6-R after logging over 50,000kms on the CBR. In April 2001 my friend Scott invited me down to Seattle International Raceway to watch a mutual friend Oliver Jervis race, promising me a few laps on the track as part of the "taste of racing" program. I was so excited, and the minute I got on the track, I thought, "this is what I'm supposed to do". I knew right away, I had to do this. Came back in, huge smile, huge grin….where do I sign up?"
I got my novice race license through the Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association (www.wmrra.com) on July 1st 2001, and exactly one year later (after selling the car to buy a mini van, and picking up a crashed Suzuki SV 650 for a race bike) took my first victory in a Westwood Motorcycle Road Racing Club (www.wmrc.ca) 650 Supersport Twins Race at Mission Raceway Park in B.C. Later that year, after two wins and a second place finish, I clinched the 650 Twins class Championship for the WRMC, and finished with a 10th place overall in the WMRRA series.
Early in 2003, one of my sponsors, CLS West (www.clswest.com) sent me to the California Superbike School (www.superbikeschool.com) to learn some important riding and racing tips. After doing level 1 and 2 at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey CA, and level 3 and 4 at the Streets of Willow Springs, I came back to racing with a stepped up race program. During that year, I managed several podium finishes in the WMRC Series at Mission, the WMRRA series in Seattle and Spokane, the EMRA series in Edmonton and the CMRA series in Calgary.
2004, saw me out of commission for the first part of the season with a badly broken collarbone from a stellar high speed crash during the final race weekend at Mission Raceway October 2-3 2003, in which I managed a 3rd place overall in the SV 650 Cup. I pursued some motojournalism options and then got offered the opportunity of a lifetime to ride a race in the Rumi Honda CBR Cup Series in Italy in September 04 by Honda Italy. A six week trip to Europe was planned with visits to England, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, France and finally Italy where I was supposed to race. Unfortunately, miscommunications and some unforeseen events meant that upon arrival at the track in Misano, San Marino, I was told I would not be allowed to race. I did however have the opportunity to ride in pre qualifying and practice on both a Honda CBR 600RR and a CBR 1000RR thanks to the kindness and generosity of Sarah and Oscar Rumi. In 2005 I participated in my first ever 600cc race at the Pro Honda Oils Women's Cup Challenge at Shannonville Raceway in Ontario. It was there that I completely changed my mind about the idea of a women's only roadracing series. I won the first race in the rain and crashed out of the second with a mighty highside that left me bruised but not broken.
2006 was an exciting and challenging year of racing in which I competed in both the Parts Canada AM 600 Nationals and the Pro Honda Oils Women's Cup Challenge which had me racing all across Canada. After a slow start, getting used to racing the 600, I finished 6th and 7th place against the men in the nationals for a 9th place finish overall in the championship which placed me as the top female racer in the series. I enjoyed several poduim finishes in the women's expert series and finished 3rd place overall. During this time I also trained with the California Superbike School and completed my Level III Professional Coaching certificate, which places me as one of the highest ranking coaches in the organization.
2007 was the most amazing year of racing ever! I participate in my first AMA events which blew me away. I thought I was pretty fast until I saw the caliber of my competitors and had to step up my racing game very quickly in order to just qualify. My first experience with AMA was at Infinneon Raceway in May where I qualified 44th after pushing myself harder than ever. It was amazing. The rest of the year saw 5 more qualifications in different races and some exciting dicing back and fourth infront of amazing fans. I had a blast!!!
For 2008 I will be teaming with fellow California Superbike School Coach Josh Galster and campaiging the entire AMA Supersport Championship Series along with selected Formula Extreme events. I will also be coaching with the California Superbike School part time at approximately 40+ school dates. We will visit over 14 different tracks in North America and I hope to travel to other parts of the world to coach with the school, as well as continuing to pursue my avenues in moto-journalism.
I'm the kind of person who is big on letting things decide for me. Not the idea of fate because that indicates that you have no control, but the idea that if you open up as many doors as possible, try as many things, then the one thing you're meant to do will come. Seven years ago, I never would have thought I'd be racing motorcycles, and making a career out of my passion, and now I'm certain that this is it!
I currently live in British Columbia Canada and work from home when not on the road. I have many hobbies including dirtbiking, mountain biking, karate and kickboxing, rock climbing, snowboarding, traveling, skydiving, fire spinning, squash, bungee jumping, and all manner of adventures.
As my career develops, I believe I offer excellent marketing value to potential sponsors as a talented motorcycle racer and as an engaging role model/spokesperson in the promotion of products and services that endorse an active, healthy, and adventurous lifestyle.
